SLR DATA ANALYSIS AT THE ASI/CGS |
|---|
| The SLR data analysis has a relatively long history at the
Matera Centro di Geodesia Spaziale (CGS). Started in 1984 with the on-site
quality control, it is now a well established activity focused on the areas
of tectonic plate motion, crustal deformation, post-glacial rebound and
subsidence, Earth rotation and polar motion, time variations of the Earth’s
gravitational field, center of mass of the total Earth system monitoring,
International Terrestrial Reference System (ITRS) maintenance, satellite
orbit determination.
The analysis products could be classified into two main types: standard and special. The standard are the basic products of the SLR analysis and contribute to the routinely monitoring of the terrestrial reference system through a set of coordinates and velocities of the worldwide network and the earth orientation parameters The special are those products requiring specific investigation and not routinely produced. They can be grouped into the following areas: - terrestrial reference frame; - precise orbit determination (POD); - gravitational field; - geocenter; - intra-technique combination/comparison.

The data collected from the SLR network contribute to the study of the Earth system, as a whole. Ad hoc analyses are made to derive time series of various geodetic parameters, i.e. low degree geopotential zonals, geocenter.
